Christmas is done very differently around the world. Many countries and cultures have different traditions they do to celebrate the holiday Christmas. In some European countries, men dress up as Krampus, an evil Christmas spirit, and scare children. In other countries, people do other interesting things, like breaking plates on the ground in Oaxaca, Mexico, or singing in caves in Castleton, England. As you can tell, most countries don’t celebrate Christmas the way that we do in America.

In many European countries, men dress up as the evil Christmas spirit, Krampus. Krampus is a demonic spirit who is described as half goat-half demon, he is the evil spirit of Christmas. He is supposed to scare kids and adults who are ungrateful and misbehave. He is essentially the opposite of Saint Nicholas, who gives out gifts and is the cheery spirit of Christmas.

For Christmas, many people dance and go caroling. Caroling is going from house-to-house singing different Christmas carols, like Silent Night and 12 Days of Christmas. People go caroling to spread the Christmas spirit. Many people also do Christmas folk dances, like in Bolivia. People in the Bolivian and Peruvian Andes have a large festival that includes folk dances. People in Castleton, England go to a large cave and start singing. They do this to celebrate Christmas.

Many people have different Christmas meal traditions. The most interesting one is that people in Japan go eat at KFC, a fried chicken place, for a Christmas meal. According to Joonas Rokka, a professor at Emlyon Business School in France, people eat at KFC on Christmas because it filled a void. “It filled a void,” Rokka says. “There was no tradition of Christmas in Japan, and so KFC came in and said, this is what you should do on Christmas.”

There are many interesting Christmas traditions around the world. Many cultures have different traditions. In the United States, most people’s Christmas is a a day of opening gifts and chilling out the rest of the day and eating, but in many other countries, people have a action packed day.

Many people put up Christmas stockings to decorate. Many hope that Krampus does not fill their stocking with coal.
