Need a good book? Stone has a big library and sometimes it’s hard to find one.  These books are the top ten books that are read here at Stone Middle School.

1. Wonder

Wonder was published in 2012 and was written by R.J. Palacio. Since 2012 Wonder has been made into a movie and won New York Times #1 bestseller and many more awards.Wonder is about a boy named Auggie Pullman who has a deformed face.  Auggie is just starting at a new school and he is having a bit of trouble. Almost everyone calls Auggie a freak. Almost everyone.

2. Drama

Drama was published in 2012 and written by Raina Telgemeier and has been awarded as a Stonewall Honor Book and a Washington Post best book of 2012. Callie has joined the stage crew for the school play, Moon Over Mississippi. Callie soon finds out that there is as much drama behind the stage as there is on the stage.

3. Smile

Smile was published in 2012 and written by Raina Telgemeier. Smile has been awarded a Eisner Award for Best Publication for a Teen Audience and a Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award. Smile is about Raina herself and the time she knocked out her two front teeth, how everyone reacted, and how much of a pain having fake front teeth, braces and lots of orthodontist visits.  

4. Booked

Booked was published in 2015 and was written by Kwame Alexander.  Booked has been awarded over 10 awards.   Twelve-year-old Nick is a football-mad boy who absolutely hates books. Football, family, love, and friendship take center stage as Nick tries to figure out how to navigate his parents’ break-up, stand up to bullies, and impress the girl of his dreams.\

5. The Crossover

The Crossover was published in 2014 and was written by Kwame Alexander. The Crossover is a winner of a John Newbery medal. Jordan and Josh are crazy over basketball, their dad used to play professionally. Their dad quit basketball and whenever they ask why or if he will coach their team he dodges the question. Jordan and Josh get curious and try to find out why he quit.

6. Percy Jackson Series

 The first book in the Percy Jackson series, The Lightning Thief, was published in 2010 and was written by Rick Riordan.  Percy find out that he is related to the Greek god, Poseidon.  Percy and his friends have to fight monsters and help the gods.

7. Harry Potter

The first book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, was published in 1997 and written by J.K. Rowling. The series has seven books in total. Harry Potter was just an ordinary kid who lived with his aunt and uncle until one day he gets an acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

8. The Fifth Wave

The Fifth Wave was published in 2013 and was written by Rick Yancey. Earth is under attack by aliens who are causing earthquakes,tsunamis and disease while they destroy the planet.  Cassie Sullivan will do whatever it takes to find her brother, Sam.

8. Divergent

Divergent was published in 2011 and written by  Veronica Roth. Divergent has won awards such as the Goodreads choice awards favorite book and the Goodreads best young adult fiction. Beatrice lives in a society where people are split based on a test. Beatrice lives lives where everyone is selfless. When it’s her turn to take the test she finds out she is considered divergent. Being divergent means in the testing simulators she can tell that it’s not real. The government and the other people find divergents dangerous and think they can ruin the system

10. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid was published in 2007 and was written by Jeff Kinney. There are 19 books in the series. Diary of a Wimpy Kid has won the Dorothy Canfield fisher award and the kids choice favorite book.  Diary of a Wimpy Kid  is the journals that Greg Heffley keeps about his life, and Greg’s life can get pretty crazy.
