Everyone is counting down to the last day of school! Teachers and students have been excited ever since the fourth quarter started! Everyone has worked so hard and is waiting for summer.

CoolNot all people go somewhere for summer break, but here are some places in Virginia that you can visit instead of staying home. These places involve seeing animals, going to water parks, amusement parks, and more!

1. Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens is a popular amusement park and they’re famous for their thrilling roller coasters. Busch Gardens is located in Williamsburg and is about 2-3 hours away from Centreville. Busch Gardens is a family friendly place that has rides for most ages. Busch Gardens has great dining options such as the Zambia Smokehouse and the Garden Gate Café. They also have a shopping center where you can get shirts, hats, magnets, and more for visitors.

2. Great Wolf Lodge

Great Wolf Lodge is in Williamsburg and is about 2 hours from Centreville. Great Wolf Lodge is a resort and a hotel in one! You can play your stay and enjoy the shopping and dining options. One of the best things about Great Wolf Lodge is that any weather can’t stop the fun there! Their indoor waterpark is a fun magnet in all weather and is a great place for family.

3. Eastern Shore Hang Gliding Center

The Eastern Shore Hang Gliding Center is located in Weirwood and is about 4 hours away from Centreville, but it can definitely be worth it according to the website Virginia is for lovers. The Eastern Shore Hang Gliding Center is a beautiful place to see the Eastern coast of Virginia. They offer flights that go up to 2500 feet or a mile high for you to glide. The age that you can fly is 4+. Go and your dream of flying can come true!

4. Kings Dominion

Kings Dominion is a amusement park in Doswell that is roughly a hour away. Their rides are fast, fun, and exciting says the website Virginia is for lovers. Kings Dominion is 400 acres with 60 rides to have a blast in. Kings Dominion has recently added on a water park too! Their water park is a 20 acres filled with water slides, wave pools, cabanas and more!

5. Discovery Ridge Adventure Center

Discovery Ridge Adventure Center is a is a family bonding center located in Wintergreen, which is approximately 2 hours away. They have outdoor activities that include trampolines, miniature golf, zip-lines, and summer tubing! The Discovery Ridge Adventure Center is fun for all ages and is a fun resort to stay in for summer.

6. Discovery Park at Sandy River Retreat

Discovery Park at Sandy River retreat is located in Rice, Virginia which can lead up to being 2 hours away. Discovery Park is known for its 52 obstacles to have fun doing and it’s 13 ziplines! This tree-top adventure park is unique because you’re up in the air the whole time! The park has obstacles and ziplines to go through, so you can accomplish the map!

7. Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center

The Virginia Aquarium and Marine science center is in Virginia Beach which can be up to four hours away from Centreville. The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center has about 10,000 animals and over 300 species of wildlife there. You can tour the aquarium or go on a dolphin discovery and go to Whales&Wildlife which is a tour ride. The aquariums have been doing their boat tours since 1989!

8. Splashdown Water Park

Splashdown is a waterpark in Manassas that offers a fun day at the pool, swim lessons, birthday parties, and awesome slides and games to play. Splashdown has many slides and people enjoy the lazy river, which is a water with a current that pulls you forward so you can relax your way down it! Splashdown has many exciting options to make your summer the best!

9. Virginia Safari Park

The Virginia Safari Park is in Natural bridge which is a town in Virginia. The Safari Park is like a drive-through, but with animals! See hundreds of animals walking around the park and feed them! They have camels, zebras, elk, llamas, bison, ostrich, deer, antelope, and giraffes!

10. Central Park Funland

Central Park is in Fredericksburg, which could be about an hour away. Central Park Funland has over 20 rides and laser tag, go karts, mini bowling, and more fun options. According to the website Family Days Out, Funland has an option of bumper boats, where families can compete with each other on water. They also have options of bumper carts and spinning tea-cups that are indoors.

11. Metro Richmond Zoo

The Metro Richmond Zoo is about 2 hours away and is rated 5 stars! The Richmond Zoo has all types of animals and has a petting zoo where you can feed goats, llamas, chickens, sheep and camels! They also offer a 15 minute on the safari train and see the African Savannah.

12. Luray Zoo

Luray Zoo is a little longer than a hour away from Centreville and has all types of retired animals! At the zoo, you can get a tour where you see all types of animals, such as unique snakes and monkeys. Luray features one of the most largest venomous snakes collections on the east coast! They have outside exhibits and a petting zoo! 

13. Flying Flowers Butterfly House

Flying flowers butterfly house is about four hours away from Centreville and has a many butterflies! You can stroll among butterflies and take in their beauty. The butterfly garden have native and non-native plants that can attract over 32 species of butterflies. The garden offers hiking trails where you can see a wide variety of butterflies.

14. Bear Path Acres

The Bear Path acres can be up to 3 hours away and is rated with five star views coming from the Family’s Days Out website. The bear path acres is a wildlife sanctuary for different types of wildlife such as Leonardo, the African black leopard, lemurs, raccoons, foxes, porcupines, and many more! The Bear Path acres also have a petting zoo where you can feed horses, sheep, llama, goats and pet rabbits and ferrets!

15. Massanutten Park

Massanutten Park is a all-year water park with five star ratings! The indoor park is 42,000 square feet of water fun and has up to eight waterslides. Massanutten park has indoor and outdoor features and has a surfing simulation machine! The park has a activity where you can play pool basketball and two floating crosswalks that really tests your balance!
