Summer is the Time to do Something New!

Now that summer is rolling around, and there are two months ahead, there could be a time where you feel as if there is nothing to do. Whether you enjoy the hot air, or just cooling down inside the house, if you’re ever bored, here are some things that you could try!

1. Try a New Sport

Sports are popular across America, and here at Stone. Recently, we had the Stone vs. Rocky Run basketball game. There are many sports that you may not know about and should probably try out. Healthline says, “Regular physical activity helps keeps your key mental skills sharp as you age.”

2. Look at Nature

The Washington Post says, “Teens are spending more than one-third of their days using social media such as online videos or music.” Being on your phone for 8 hours a day, can worsen your eyesight. It might be a good idea to look out at nature, and see all the greenery around you.

3. Go Stargazing

Sometimes, it’s a good thing to spend some time to yourself, and have a “me” day. On a warm summer night, lay out a blanket and look out into the stars.

4. Try a New Hobby

If there is a hobby you wanted to try out, now is probably the best time. So, during the summer you have a whole 2 ½ months to work on that hobby! 5. Start a Puzzle

6. Spend Time Alone

There are many other things that you can do without having to be with your friends or family. This includes drawing, watching Netflix, or just looking at the clouds. According to Forbes, “Being alone helps you become more comfortable in your own skin.”

7. Learn a New Language

If you’re planning to travel to another country, it might be a good idea to learn  the language that country offers! According to Trinity, “Language impacts the daily lives of members of any race, creed, and region of the world.” While you’re in another country, it could be useful when you’re asking for directions on where to go.

8. Go Swimming

During the summers in Virginia, it can get pretty hot. While you can sit in the shade, now can also be a good time to go and cool off in the water. According to ACTIVE, “Swimming builds longer, leaner muscles that complement the shorter denser muscles that develop from weight training. These “swimmer’s muscles” also help boost metabolism to keep calories burning longer.”

9. Draw

According to Step to Health, drawing helps with communication, motor skills, mental health, cerebral (you intellect) pleasure, and fun. Pick up a pencil, marker, crayon, and start drawing your mind out. Drawing could be anything from a person, to what you see in nature.
