Horses, in some people’s opinion, are very sweet and determined animals.  Other people think they’re dangerous; there are many popular horse breeds, but here are the top 10 most famous horse breeds in 2018.

1. Arabian

According to Discover, Arabian horses are known for doing dressage; dressage is basically a horses way of dancing. The Arabian breed is over 5,000 years old and is known as the oldest breed. Arabians were bred by a desert tribe in the Arabian peninsula. The average height for an Arabian is 14.1-15.1 hands; basically, horses are measured in hands instead of feet,  every 4 inches equals is one hand . Some of the Arabians most noticeable features are their chiseled head and arched neck. If you’re looking for a champion horse that will also be your partner and can do dressage, the Arabian horse might be the perfect breed for you.

2. Quarter Horse

According to I Heart Horses, A Quarter Horse is the 2nd most popular breed. The Quarter Horse has considerable thoroughbred in them, but soon enough, thoroughbreds overshadowed Quarter Horse by being able to go long distances at fast speeds. This is why a quarter horse makes the perfect barrel racer; Barrel racing should be about 17 seconds long racing around 3 barrels. Quarter Horse are good for western riding, such as cutting or roping because they’re short, stocky and very muscular. If you are a person who likes western riding, a quarter horse is perfect for you.

3. Thoroughbred  

According to I Heart Horses, Thoroughbreds are one of the best known horse breeds and are known for horse racing and their athletic body shape. Thoroughbreds hold more world records than any other breed.  Some thoroughbreds are used for jumping or dressage, but thoroughbreds were born to race. The fastest the thoroughbred was a 2 year old who at one point ran 43.97 mph. Also, the most famous horse racing legend was a thoroughbred named Secretariat. If you’re into a horse that is fast and furious, you would love to own a thoroughbred.

4. Tennessee Walker  

According to I Heart Horses, the Tennessee Walker is known for its amazing gaited movement and for their running walk; the running walk is when Tennessee Walker race at a walk. The Tennessee Walker was an all purpose ranch horse on many southern plantations and which were bred for utility. Tennessee Walkers are usually pretty tall and are common for injuries in their hooves because they have a disjointed gait. They can be 14 different colored coats such as a palomino, black, bay, chestnut, one of the rarest coat colors for a Tennessee Walker is called grullo, which is a mix of black and grey.

5. Morgan

Morgans are usually 14.2-15.2 hands Every Morgan traces back to be a stallion; 90% of saddle-breeds have Morgan in their genes. The Morgan horse is considered to be one of the most elegant breeds. They’re known for their intelligence and their inherited qualities. The first Morgan horse was born in 1789, at first, Morgan horses were called “a figure”. The Morgan is a breed influencer; they influenced a quarter horse, Tennessee walker, saddle-bred and standard-bred. Its very rare for Morgan’s to be gaited.

6. Paint

The American Paint is favored in the West, they make good family horses and have good muscles. They’re suitable for farm life and even trail rides, they are closely related to pinto’s many (people get confused between the 2 breeds). Paints don’t have a certain height they need to be; there are ponies that can be paints (under 14.2 hands) and there could be a 16.2 hand paint. The paint is one of the youngest horse breeds, they were found in 1963. Overall, the American Paint horse is very colorful and if you’re looking for family friendly horse the Paint would be the perfect breed to chose.

7. Appaloosa

Appaloosa’s all have the same speckles on their fur. Most horses change colors as the get older, but Appaloosa’s stay the same color.   Appaloosa’s were first called “Palouse horses,” but the name kept changing until it was finally decided on “Appaloosa.” Appaloosa’s are often used on TV or in movies. They’re the state horse of Idaho, they’re known for their speckled pattern they arrived in the 16th. Century. Usually, Appaloosa’s are used for leisure riding and trail riding. Overall, if you want a calm and easy ride for trailing around, then an Appaloosa would be a nice pick for you.

8. Miniature  

There are many horse breeds, but in most opinions, Miniatures are the cutest because they are half the size of an average horse and they are the smallest horses; they can stand from 17-18 inches tall. Miniature’s make good therapy horses and can be great for cart rides. They also come in a wide variety of colors such as roan, pinto, dun, chestnut and many more. Miniature’s aren’t a good choice for you if your looking for a show horse, dressage or racing. Miniature’s are a good horse for someone older who might just want to ride around on a cart or someone who just wants a horse as a pet.

9. Warmblood

Warmbloods can do dressage and high jumpers. Warmbloods are often the most expensive horses, they are well muscled and extremely powerful horses. These horses can be over 17 hands not only can they soar over a jump, but they can be graceful too and that’s why they’re also good for dressage. Warmbloods are definitely one of the most beautiful looking horse, they’re popular for being in the Olympics with events. Warmbloods are for more advanced riders because of how strong and powerful they are, so if you’re a beginner a Warmblood isn’t the safest choice of horse.

10. Andalusian

The Andalusian is also known as a Pure Spanish horse, this breed is known for being a war horse and most noble. Andalusian’s are good for movies because of their gorgeous coloring. Grey is the most common coat colors for an Andalusian, but they can be any color. Most horses in this breed are 1,500 pounds or under. They are useful for trail riding and dressage. They stand between 14.3-15 hands tall. In conclusion, Andalusian are a good horse for anybody to ride.
