The NBA Playoffs

Nate H., Staff Writer

The 2017-2018 NBA season was a long, hard, and challenging season for many teams.  From the Philadelphia 76ers “process” (rebuilding a better team) to the the Indiana Pacers new star Victor Oladipo (which was a pretty easy trade for the Oklahoma City Thunder), to this off0-season and the challenge for the Cleveland Cavaliers to completely rebuild their team half way through the season.  However, all of this hard work was for the playoffs and a good chance at winning the NBA Finals.

The Toronto Raptors  are an amazing team wit many including all-stars,Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry. The Raptors had outstanding regular season winning 59 out of 82 games; 34 of those wins were at home.  Now since the playoffs had started, it was time to shine while they were playing the Washington Wizards ,the eighth seed of the Eastern Conference.  The Toronto Raptors won the series in 4 games.  The next up was either the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Indiana Pacers; once the Cavaliers and Pacers were finished the series 4-3 in 7 games, it was time for Toronto’s hardest challenge, making it past the second round, especially focusing on LeBron James.  Yet again this year the Raptors sadly were swept again.  So  the Toronto Raptors will have another chance at the playoffs in the 2018-2019 season.

All star point guard Chris Paul and by his side MVP candidate and All-Star player James Harden.Winning 65 games in the regular season games, which is outstanding.  Playoffs eventually came around and up against the Rockets were the Minnesota Timberwolves.  With amazing offensive and defensive plays the Rockets only let the Timberwolves win a single game beating them 4-1.  Right now at this time, the Rockets are playing the Utah Jazz and are up in the series 3 to 1.

Now taking a break from the two 1st Focusing on the rest of the playoffs.  The first crazy occurrence was when  the New Orlean Pelicans  swept (beat 4-0) the Portland Trail Blazers.  Also, we did not see many outstanding plays performed by Damian Lillard, their star player.  Another thing noticed during the playoffs involved the Oklahoma City Thunders big three: Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony; they did not perform as well as expected and many would blame Russell Westbrook becausehe has acted like a ball hog for most of the series. SAlso, Carmelo had a poor shot selection, and also Paul George just couldn’t finish his shots with a score.

Many people have been wondering the whole season about how these rebuilt teams would succeed and most of them ended well.  For example, Philadelphia 76ers were the third seed and made the playoffs for the first time since the 2012 season. A lot changed for the Celtics; even though they  had a great team, they did not succeed due to Gordon Hayward’s and Kyrie Irving’s injuries.  Even though some of the great teams had outstanding players, they still couldn’t  do everything for their team.
