Hang on for a minute...we're trying to find some more stories you might like.

Ever felt guilty about eating chocolate because it’s supposedly bad for you? Ever needed a reason to get your parents to allow you to eat chocolate? Well, if so, I’ve got good news for you.

  1. Improves Heart Function

Eating dark chocolate can lower your risk of heart disease by 33%. During a study found in Faseb Journal, scientists found that the flavonoids in the chocolate increases the flexibility of veins and arteries increasing blood flow.  When consistently eating chocolate, people’s blood pressures were found to be lower while exercising.

  1. Lowers Cholesterol Level

Eating chocolate is found to lower your cholesterol and LDL levels. It also highers your HDL levels(a healthy cholesterol-you want it higher). Higher HDL levels can help lower your risk of heart disease.

  1. Less Likely to Have a Stroke

According to the British Journal of Nutrition, eating chocolate is found to reduce your risk of stroke by 22%! Those who do suffer from a stroke are 46% less likely to die from it.

  1. Improves Brain and Memory Function

Dark chocolate shield cells found in your brain. It also helps protect the brain damage that that occurs as a result of a stroke. Eating chocolate can also help with memory loss. Drinking two cups of hot chocolate a day was proven to help with memory deterioration of the elderly.

  1. Makes Skin Healthier

The flavonols protect your skin from damage done by the sun. Eating dark chocolate can help your skin stay hydrated and helps with skin density. During a study,  when people ate dark chocolate the MED( minimal erythemal dose) more than doubled. That means that the minimum amount of UVB(Ultraviolet B) rays needed to cause a sunburn were higher, thus lowering the risk of a sunburn.

  1.      High in Antioxidants

Dark chocolate has many antioxidants that fight well against sickness. Studies done by the Cleveland Clinic found that cocoa has more antioxidants than other fruits that were previously found to have really high antioxidant levels.

  1.          Reduce Stress

Dark chocolate can help reduce your stress hormone levels after people ate one and a half ounces of chocolate for two weeks. Breaking out the dark chocolate can help you so much more than if you got out the pint of ice cream “sitting” in the freezer.

  1. Weight Loss

Surprisingly, chocolate is found to help with weight loss. Dark chocolate is very filling and can help suppress the feeling that you’re hungry, this helps encourage you not to and eat the unhealthy foods. So when you’re feeling hungry, break out the dark chocolate bar!

  1. Cough Relief

Chocolate can provide cough relief when you’re sick. Theobromine, a chemical in chocolate, reduces the activity in the vagus nerve, or the nerve that controls when you cough. Instead of using codeine, which makes you sleepy, use dark chocolate so you can feel better in no time!

Dark Chocolate can be even more beneficial if you eat a bar with 70% cocoa or higher. Ms. Ellen says, “I believe that everyone should have at least one piece of dark chocolate a day.”
